Women Of Virtue

Here, Rev Dr Prabhudas Koshy speaks on Christian women and prayer meetings, and he urges sisters to faithfully attend these appointed times and places of prayer. If they are able to, they should also open their own homes to have prayer gatherings.

Christian women must be prayerful women. In this second ladies’ seminar conducted by Gethsemane BPC on the 26th of March 2011, Rev Dr Prabhudas Koshy speaks on how, who and what believers should pray for.

Lessons on exalting God, considering others and lowering oneself are taught in the discussion.

This programme is a character study of two women in the Bible, whose account can be found in Mark 6:14-29, Luke 3:19&20 and Matthew 14:1-12. Christian women are warned against sin, wilfulness, and being an ungodly influence to those under their charge

The short devotion, a book extract, a poem and a couple of songs speak of how a Christian ought to be strong in faith, lead a victorious life, and stand up for what is right and good.

This topic has been chosen to help sisters who often succumb to negative emotions, particularly moodiness or sulkiness. Biblical counsel and rebuke are given in the question-and-answer session.

Two sisters will be verbally acting out a few scenarios of a Christian’s conversation with an unbeliever. The simple audio dramatization hopes to give listeners some ideas of how to share the gospel using relevant verses, and respond to different types of unbelievers who have various mindsets about Christ and the Christian faith.

This follow-up programme of the previous one focuses on the Christian woman’s testimony in her workplace. Questions on how she may bear a good witness through her responses and actions at work will be addressed here.

This session deals with how a Christian lady may approach her unbelieving colleagues with the gospel, including those who are Roman Catholics and those seeking a church to attend.

More testimonies on selected hymns are given in this programme. Listeners will hear “Be Thou My Vision”, “Does Jesus Care”, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” and “Day by Day”.

Here, some sisters will be sharing how a particular hymn they have chosen has touched or encouraged them in their spiritual journey. The hymns will be played following each testimony. They are “Come Thou Fount”, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, “Saw Ye My Saviour?” and “Only A Sinner”.

Christian women are soberly reminded of the daily invisible warfare that confronts them. They are to fight it, and do so victoriously in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This discussion gives biblical counsel to older Christian women – those advanced in years and mature in faith – on how to be an example to the younger sisters.

Proverbs 11:16 says, “A gracious woman retaineth honour…” The preacher in his devotion summarises the gracious woman as being large-hearted; calm and composed when maligned by others; and having behavioural appropriateness. She is one whom God rewards with honour.

King Solomon warns about the “strange woman” in Proverbs 7:5-27 where her ungodly characteristics are described. A brief reading of Potiphar’s wife is also included in this programme. All Christian ladies are exhorted to learn from these negative examples, and take heed.

In the discussion, a differentiation is made between the good and bad kind of jealousy as found in Scripture. It also seeks to help Christian women who struggle with this sin, whether in the church, workplace or among peers.

Hospitality is commanded and commended in the Scriptures which exhort believers to pursue it with gladness and not grudgingly. At the same time, believers are cautioned about who they extend hospitality too for there are cases in which such kindness should be withheld. From the discussion, listeners may expect to learn from these issues and more.

This programme is dedicated to those who are called to be a pastor’s helpmeet. It is also a time of learning for those who are not, that they may not only prepare themselves if God will ever call them to be one, but also to understand their own Pastor’s wife better, and thus be able to encourage and minister to her more effectively.

Listeners will learn that Christian weddings should not be mere rituals or overly elaborate celebrations that overlook the true significance of the union of man and wife. It is also crucial that the lifelong marriage that follows a once-off wedding must continue to be God-centred and God-honouring.

This topic is based on 2 Timothy 1:11. Learning in silence does not mean that women are to keep quiet completely. Rather, they are to be good students of God’s Word, and not usurp the authority of man.
